RESUMO: Este artigo propõe uma análise crítica do conceito de fauxtonomia, um neologismo que funde "falso" e "autonomia" para descrever sistemas tecnológicos que aparentam operar de forma autônoma, mas cuja funcionalidade depende essencialmente de ações humanas, frequentemente ocultas ou invisibilizadas. Em um cenário de crescente entusiasmo com a inteligência artificial (IA), a fauxtonomia evidencia como a suposta independência tecnológica mascara estruturas humanas complexas de suporte, treinamento e controle. O texto investiga os limites éticos, políticos e operacionais da automação, trazendo à tona o papel central dos trabalhadores invisíveis e das decisões humanas por trás das máquinas ditas inteligentes.

ABSTRACT: This article proposes a critical analysis of the concept of fauxtonomy, a neologism that merges "false" and "autonomy" to describe technological systems that appear to operate autonomously but whose functionality essentially depends on human actions—often hidden or obscured. In a context of growing enthusiasm for artificial intelligence (AI), fauxtonomy reveals how the alleged technological independence conceals complex human structures of support, training, and control. The text investigates the ethical, political, and operational limits of automation, highlighting the central role of invisible labor and human decisions behind so-called intelligent machines.
